Couture Look Photorial

Posted by Unknown |

I wanted to bang out this photorial (a "photo tutorial") as quickly as possible, before my days off run out and I go back to work! Sorry about the picture quality on a couple of them. I don't know what happened!

First, these are the things you will need for this style: a pashmina, a bonnet or tube underscarf, two bobby pins (or "hair slides"), and several pins and/brooches.

(I'm wearing a Maysaa band snood for the sake of coverage, but you don't need to wear a polo shirt or snood because your neck will be covered at the end.)
Place the bonnet on your head, like so.

Put the scarf over the top of your head, so you have one short length and one long length. Be sure that the short length is still long enough for you to bring the bottom corner to the opposite ear. (You will see this below.)

Using the bobby pins, attach the scarf to your bonnet on each side, just behind your ear. Don't worry, it will stay put.

Bring the corner of the short end to your ear, then slide the corner into the bobby pin, so it stays securely. Don't worry if you get a little tail hanging out, like I have. It will be covered later. If you are worried about it though, you can pin down the end.

Next, bring the long end across your chest, to the opposite side. I usually make a small fold down the length of the scarf to make an edge, but you don't have to do that. As you bring the scarf around, pull the bottom edge around your neck, so that you don't have a loose fold at the bottom.

As you can see, the scarf should be rather tight around the neck, but not so tight that you can't breathe! As you bring the edge over your head, roll the scarf in your hand like a tube.

Once you have brought the scarf over the top of your head, this is how it will look in the back. The scarf is rolled up now, like a sausage, but you still have plenty of coverage on the neck.

Now bring the rolled up scarf along the back of your neck, under your ponytail or bun. How big you want it to look is totally up to you.

Now bring it over the top.

Tuck in the tassels. (Or you can leave them out if you like that look. But I prefer to tuck them in.)

Now, using your pins or brooches, secure the edges of the scarf. The tension of the material mostly keeps it in place, but you will want to use at least three pins, one on the top and one on each side, just to make sure. If your pashmina is very heavy, then you can use the longer hijab pins to secure it through all the layers to the bonnet as well.

Some ways to vary this look include making the bun in the back larger or smaller, draping the material more or making the scarf "sausage" tighter. You could even twist the scarf to create a rope look. You could also twist other accessories into the scarf as your wrap it around, such as a ribbon or a narrow scarf. Play with the look as much as you like! And send pictures! I'd love to see your variations!
