So, I went to my first Bangladeshi wedding. We only attended the third day, so most of the festivities were already over and we pretty much just showed up, ate biriyani, and sat around for a couple hours. But it was still interesting. Here is what I wore:
I had this futwa made for me, so it fit like a glove. I originally shopped at the mall for a pre-made one, but I couldn't find anything that wasn't painfully tight or unflatteringly large. So we went to a fabric shop and I chose this material. It didn't come with a scarf, and all the pre-made onnas were too thick and large to wear as a hijab, so I improvised by wearing a brown chiffon scarf I got from the internet (with the lovely flower appliques) and a pink chiffon scarf my sister-in-law found for me. The pink wasn't an exact match to the shirt, so I wore them together. One would think wearing two scarves would be too hot, but honestly it was too hot regardless, so the extra scarf didn't really make any difference.
Side views of my look. It took a little finaggalling and a lot of pins, but I got the two chiffon scarves to wrap together and actually stay in place! Yay pins!
Here is the only picture I managed to get of the bride. She had lovely colorful paint on her hands and arms in lieu of henna, and her waist-long hair was twisted with a rope of white flowers edged with red roses. She also had hot pink nail polish, which I thought was a trendy touch.
