The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

Makeup Look #1

Posted by Unknown |

After watching dozens of makeup tutorials on YouTube and on other blogs, analyzing my makeup collection, experimenting, and finally just manning up, I have decided to post my very first makeup look on my blog. It is a softer variation of a smoky eye look I like to do by mixing several different palettes and brands, but to keep it simple, I've used just one palette for this look. Usually I mix the darkest pink (more of a mauve really) with a glittery black, but this time I have used just the pinks in the palette. The black makes it much more dramatic, and therefore more fun for evening. But the subtler version here would be good for wearing to work or going out in the daytime.

The Tools:

From top to bottom: Maybelline Lash Exte Double Stretch Mascara, Revlon Eye Pencil in Black, Maybelline Eye Studio Diamond Glow 02, Lipstick is Maybelline 217 in Mermaid Pink.

The eye shadow palette features four colors, a shimmery peach, baby doll pink, rose pink, and mauve. I know that the peach is for the highlight on the brow, but I still think it is a little too translucent and difficult to see. The two middle pinks are very cute, I've used the rose pink for the lid and the baby pink as the highlighter just above the lid. I used the mauve for the crease and corners, although it is difficult to see in the photos. I put a little bit of the baby pink on my lower lash line as well, to brighten it up.

The mascara I'm using, also by Maybelline, is one of my favorites. It has two wands, one with a white base and the other with a black. You put the base over your lashes, let them dry, then apply the black over it. It seriously makes your eye lashes look twice as long and if you curl them when you have the base on, it makes them look like a doll's eyes. The only drawback to it is that is it a pain to wash off unless you have a good makeup remover.

The lipstick is a nice fresh pink, one of my favorite colors because it doesn't overpower your mouth and make it look too faded out, as some pinks do. It also isn't a "little girl" color, which looks unfortunate on adult women. This lipstick can get a bit dry after a while though, so I usually put a gloss over it, or apply another shimmer lipstick over it to keep it moisturized.
