The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

What I've Been Up To...

Posted by Unknown |

As you may have noticed, I haven't been uploading many hijab looks lately. That is because I've been in Bangladesh the past two months and almost never go out. Especially the last two weeks. However, that doesn't mean I wasn't busy doing something! I'm one of those people that always has to be doing something, and keeping my hands busy. I can't stand to just sit and do nothing, not even to watch TV! So, I'm an avid crafter. I especially like crochet because it is so diverse and flexible. Here are some things I've made lately:

Floral Makeup Case. Original four-panel design comes from Lion Brand Yarn, but the pattern in the squares and the daisy designs were my idea, as was the striped flap. This little bag will be good for transporting small palettes and makeup pencils in my purse!

Freestyle Crochet Compact Coozie. This little number was the result of supreme boredom and lack of ideas. The design on the front is called "freestyle" crochet, which means it is a random assortment of pattern elements either worked together or sewn together later (mine is a combination of the two). The whole point of freestyle crochet is for the pattern to not be a pattern. The shape of the case was also my own design. It has an open top for easily accessing the compact, and rounded corners to keep the compact in place when in your bag.

Ipod and Cellphone Drawstring Bag Set. This set doesn't look like it matches, but in fact the only difference between the two bags are that the light pink and dark pink colors have been switched. Again my own design, this set features drawstring bags for my phone and ipod, and the ipod also has its own "coozie", to keep it from getting scratched when I drop it (which, unfortunately, I do all the time).

Reversible Book Cover. The v-stitch pattern for this cover was also taken from Lion Brand Yarn, however the design of the cover was my own. I often read big, thick books in paperback and I get frustrated when the cover or pages get bent or soiled from being in my bag. (Because of course, I carry books with me everywhere!) As you can see, the design of the pattern places two of the four colors in relief, so they are more obvious. One side showcases the light pink and dark pink, and the other side shows the purple and green. I made corresponding buttons for each side, which you wrap the cord around to close the flap across the top.

Cellphone Bag. The first in a series of cellphone bags I made for my husband's relatives. The design of the case and patterns are all my own invention. This case has a little ladybug sitting on a couple of leaves, with red detailing on the side to match.

These are just some samples of my recent work. Stay tuned for more crafty posts to come!
