The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

Nothing New for a While...

Posted by Unknown |

I'm very sorry everyone, that I haven't posted in a long time. I can blame it partially on the never-ending earthquakes, which make it difficult to get a solid night's sleep, so I am forever battling foggy mornings and bleary-eyed evenings, which leaves me no time for taking nice photos. Also, I am blaming it on the fact that I've been working 6 1/2 days a week for the last two weeks, and will continue to for the next two weeks, in preparation for *finally going to the U.S.* !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband's visa is almost done! Yay! We are planning to leave Japan at the end of April, then fly to Bangladesh, where he will have his final interview. Then, if he is successful Inshahallah, we will be in the U.S. by mid-May!

I'm really excited but also apprehensive. My parents and friends will see me in hijab for the first time, plus I will have to adjust to life there with the hijab too. It's something I worry about obsessively, so I am using it as the third reason I can't sleep!

Anyway, onwards. Here is a look I got from the tutorial by Marafy. She posted about 3 different versions of it on Youtube, but here is one version:

She also has the same tutorial, but for using two scarves, but I used only one. These are the results below!

Although this was a work outfit (not for public schools- at the moment I'm doing a lot of extra shifts for a private company that has cram schools all over Japan. They require business dress, so I'm wearing a cropped black jacket, a purple maxi dress, high heels, and a brooch!

After all, no one said business dress couldn't be colorful!

It's ok, be strong sweetie! Go into the room as if nothing has changed and enjoy the reactions...then laugh about it to break the ice! :) Be confident!

I hope everything goes well for Japan!
Just curious: Since you're worried about adjusting in the US with hijab, isn't the hijab more of an unfamiliar thing in Japan than in the US? What sort of reactions do you receive?
