The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, pictures unrelated and from kind of a long time ago, but it's too humid to get dressed up and take any new photos :P The reason for the very upbeat blog entry title is because I finally received a response/decision about my missing hijab order. The website said because it has officially been 6 weeks since my order was shipped, they will now issue a full refund. I'm really happy about that, because now I can order new hijabs!

Actually, the realization I have come to over the course of doing this blog, is that I have now officially run out of new hijabs to make entries about. Except for a couple of al-amiras, all my scarves used to be mufflers back in the pre-hijab days, and many of them aren't suited to the task. They are too short, or too narrow, too thick, or too fine. Many of them qualify more as "neckerchiefs" than scarves. So, when it's all boiled down, I have about 12 good ones, 5 of which I can wear comfortably in the summer. Oh yeah, and my infamous Maysaa snood ;)

To those who don't wear hijabs (or rather, who don't wear scarves in any capacity with regularity), that may sound like a lot. Indeed, my friend was quoted as saying, "12 scarves? Isn't that enough already?" My response was, "How many shirts do you have? How many pairs of underpants? How many pairs of socks? More than 10? More than 20?" The answer is, of course she has more than 10. And probably more than 20. Because those are items one wears everyday. And so are hijabs. So it makes perfect sense to need a considerable number of them, even just to cycle in the laundry, let alone to match all the occasions they need to be worn to- formal, business, informal, casual, etc. Not so much a problem for underpants, but it is certainly a problem with scarves.

Matching scarves to every outfit is both a pleasure and a challenge. And an expense. I'm a family woman on a budget, so I don't get to pull in a haul very often. (In fact, since I started wearing hijab, it's been exactly once.) So one might say I was really counting on that shipment, and not only because I spent a lot of money on it.

Anyway, what I really want to know is, should I go ahead and trust the same website to order again? They have literally the best selection and shipping prices of any website out there. Believe me, I've looked. Their selection kicks the ass of any other website, actually. And most of the things I ordered the first time are still in stock. (Ahem, unlike Pearl Daisy, ahem.) So... poll time. Should I order from the site again? (Keep in mind that the first time I ordered, my shipment arrived in a record 5 days from London to Tokyo.)

A- Yes!!!! Go for it!

B- Don't be stupid. Shop somewhere else.

C- Look around first, then decide.

I look forward to your comments!

yay! that's good news. alhamdulillah! i am happy for you.

at least the website takes responsibility for what happened. well, you have shopped from the website twice, right? nobody is perfect. perhaps they've overlooked certain aspect when they delivered your hijab the 2nd time. i'd vote for A, definitely. Go get the latest hijab for yourself, dear! And good luck! :)
