Inspired by a recent Yahoo article declaring the Top 10 Worst Trends of 2000, I decided to compile my "best" and "worst" list of trends from 2000-2010. The categories are Hair, Body, Makeup, Clothes. Do you agree or disagree? What are your favs?
HAIR
Best: Romantic Waves
Long, loose, carefree- three words to describe the look on the beach in this decade. Other hair trends were popular too, such as the long, flat hair inspired by the 1960s, and the multitude of bobs floating around. But I think the most flattering look was definitely the romantic wave. For thick hair, the waves make it more manageable. And for thin hair, the waves bring body. It's the best for both worlds!
Worst: Cornrows
Back from the 80s, this unflattering style made its way somehow into ladies fashion. Aside from ethnic implications, the style is simply unattractive on women. It pulls the hair tightly from the face, giving even the softest brow a severe look. It creates scalp lines across the head, making thick hair look thin, and thin hair look practically nonexistent. And if that weren't enough, having the hair twisted so tightly causes hair loss. Definitely give this one a pass.
BODY
Best: Curvy-licious

Finally, women are allowed to look like women again! The recent resurgence of women with curves is a welcome and long-missed trend. Everywhere on television, movies, and advertisements, naturally-shaped women are making their debuts. Being thin may still be a lingering desire, but at least now there is a suitably acceptable alternative. Clothing is being made to fit women with curves, and designers are beginning to design clothing that accentuates rather than streamlines. I for one must say, it's about time!
Worst: Cosmetic Surgery
To "augment" the best in body shape trends, here comes the worst- the unaccountable desire to alter God-given natural features into something else. Of course, there are people who need and deserve plastic surgery- accident victims, or people with diseases or birth defects. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about perfectly lovely, natural-looking women plumping up, cutting up, or sizing up their various parts to look more like something they aren't. In addition, are older women (and men too) trying to stop the clock by getting face lifts, collagen injections, liposuction, and other horrific procedures to "look younger." Why not celebrate beauty at any age instead? (PS- If you want a scare sometime, try looking up "cosmetic surgery gone wrong" on Google... but don't eat first. You might throw up.)
MAKEUP
Best: Natural Look
Smoky eyes, barely-there blush, bronzed cheeks, neutral-toned lips- these all combine into the Boho-style makeup trend that has been big the last few years. It goes with any clothing style, suits any face, and is gentle on any complexion. The best part is the "natural" part- its makeup that hardly looks like makeup. It gives a subtle enhancement to a woman's natural features without overdoing it or making it stand out. Modest, and beautiful.
Worst: Spray Tan
Okay, it isn't technically makeup, but just as well as. Now that skin doctors have finally gotten the public to realize how dangerous tanning beds are, the next new thing is to bronzify your skin using a spray-on chemical. Does anyone look natural with this system? I am yet to find one. What I have found is a disturbing palette of colors ranging from tangerine to burnt toast. Not really the most attractive descriptions for a skin color.
CLOTHES
Best: Boyfriend Jeans
To round out a decade of leggings, jeggings, and skinny jeans come a great alternative for those of us that don't want to squeeze into our jeans- the boyfriend cut. Relaxed, loose without being baggy, these jeans are flattering and chic, combining easily with a sporty look, or a glam touch. Wear with your Converse, or with your heels.
Worst: Short-Shorts
Every summer these tiny pants creep onto the racks, but it seemed that this previous year was an all-time high. Not only are we confronted with jean cut offs (a classic American look that will probably never die), but now short-shorts are being made to look like suit pants, khakis, and knit trousers. It's like someone took garden shears to every pair of pants they owned, then made it a fashion trend. But worse than that, is the penchant for wearing them with leggings or tights, such as in the photo above.

I Need Something....
Buy it here! Some of these shops I have ordered from myself, and some I haven't but have heard good things about. If you have used a shop, then please let me know so I can give it a star rating!

A nice selection of modest clothing, including jilbabs, tops, cardigans, and maxi dresses. Also hijabs of all types. Offers a monthly contest for a free hijab.

Good selection of reasonably-priced hijab scarves, a wide selection of full-coverage underscarves (called Covering Bandannas on the site), bonnets, and the "bulkyjab," a generously-sized scarf for full coverage with lots of fabric to play with. Order within the UK only, because their international shipping rates are outrageous.

Newly launched modest clothing line by hijabi Hana Tajima-Simpson. A basic collection, but bound for great things. Basics of each item your wardrobe requires- skirts, trousers, polo tops, snood caps, dresses. Pre-ordered items shipped quickly, and were very high quality.
