In honor of Pink Hijab Day on October 27th (which for me was yesterday, but for those on the other side of the world, is today) I wore this lovely hijab that I was very thrilled to find. (And finally, I get to wear my hot pink sparkly leggings! I bought them on impulse and could never find a context for them. But they perfectly match this skirt, which is actually meant to be a dress. Isn't that hideous? How could this possibly look good as a dress???)
I was walking through the train station, and there is this tiny little accessory shop where I sometimes find cute things. They keep a rack of scarves right at the front of the doorway, so I can't help but see them as I race past to catch my transfer. But on this particular day, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this scarf displayed right in the front. It looked so familiar, but I couldn't think of where I'd seen it before. Unfortunately, I couldn't stop and look because I had to catch my train, but later on that week I did have an opportunity to look again, and it was then that I knew I had definitely seen it before.
I shop on this great website called Hijab Store Online and they have a wide variety of scarves. I usually compile a wish list, and then when I have some extra funds, I get a haul. Well, it turns out that scarf at the station looked so familiar because it was on my wish list! I checked the website, and it turned out to be exactly the same scarf! However, the website didn't have the pink color anymore. But if you compare the design in red, you can clearly see it is the same one.
In fact, it had never occurred to me to wear navy blue and fuchsia pink together before, but since both colors are in the scarf, I think the mix works. I'm wearing a pink string bonnet cap (grr still haven't bought the tube kind yet), with the famous Maysaa band snood over it. Best thing about that band snood is how much simpler it makes wearing a pashmina scarf! I saw a couple of lovely photos of the Malaysian singer Yuna wearing loosely wrapped pashmina scarves over the band snood, and it looked perfectly casual and elegant at the same time!
Since I have very thin hair, and therefore cannot tolerate any weight on my head, I've divined a couple ways of wrapping a pashmina so all the bulk is around the neck and shoulders, wrapping only once around the head. That's right, I wrapped it only once! The mysterious fold halfway across my head is my little secret ;) But I'll tell you, if you want to know...
