Pashmina Tutorial (Photorial) for Delicate Heads

Posted by Unknown |

Sorry it's been a while since I last posted. It's been a couple of crazy weeks, because the school year is ending in about a month. Here in Japan, there are three semesters a year, April-July, August-November, and December-March. The kids (and teachers) get about 3 weeks off between the middle of March and the beginning of April before the new school year begins. This is also the time that we have to renew our teaching contracts! Yipes! So I've been having observations from my mentor teachers, reports to write, and meetings to attend.

Yet somehow, I managed to put together a photorial! This is a style for wearing a pashmina. It can be light or heavy, and is comfortable for women with fine or delicate hair, because it puts almost no weight at all on the head. I recommend it for winter/fall because it requires the scarf being wrapped around the neck, and I think in the summer it would be too cumbersome. It's also very easy and takes almost no time at all to do!

Step One:
Put the pashmina over your head, so you have a short end and a long end. Exactly how long you want it is up to you.

Step Two:
Make a small fold on the both sides of the scarf.

Step Three:
Bring the two folded ends together, and put one end over the other (it doesn't matter which side)

Step Four:
Use a safety pin (pictured is a no-snag pin) to secure the two ends. I have pinned it on the outside, but you can pin it on the inside if you want. Make sure it is under your chin, but not tight.

Step Five:
Bring the long end in front of your neck, and wrap it around. Make sure it is smooth around the sides of your face.

When you have completed Step Five, it should look like this.
Now at this point, if you want lots of coverage in the front, you can leave both ends hanging down, or bring the long end up and pin it to your shoulder. If you don't need a lot of front coverage, then:

Step Six:
Bring the end around your neck a second time, putting it over your shoulder.

Then it will look like this!

And in the back.

Step Seven:
Get two straight pins like the one above. Pull the scarf a little back from your face, and secure it on the side with the pins.

You can hide the pin in the folds if you don't want it to show. Or you can use a small brooch instead.

Variation

Instead of putting the rough end of the scarf over your head, you can fold it like so:

It's good to fold it over about six inches.

Step Two:
Put the pashmina over your head the same way as before, only now you have a folded edge.

Step Three:
As before, make a small fold on each side and pin them together under your chin.

Looks like this.

Then, bring the long end around your neck, same as before.

Bring the long end around a second time, and put over your shoulder, and it looks like this!

This style is great for wearing a jacket, hooded sweatshirt, or other loose top with layers. You can adjust how long you want the ends to be to suit the outfit you've chosen. When I wear this style with a jacket, I make the hanging end longer, so it falls to the bottom of the jacket. However, with this shirt, I decided to make it shorter. And if you wanted to wear this style with a business suit that needs to be buttoned, you can always tuck in the loose end, so the front is smooth and tassel-free.
