The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

Crissy-Crossy

An outfit featuring the other flat chiffon flower hairpin, this one in gray. It's exactly the same as the brown one in style, but it gives a different look. I wore it with a pink and white patterned scarf, a gray bonnet cap, white blouse, and gray trousers.

The interesting part of this style is the criss-cross I did with the scarf. Let me see if I can explain it in words....

(Please keep in mind that these photos were taken in front of a mirror, so left appears right, and vice-versa. I realized way later that this makes my explanation harder to follow. Sorry about that!)

First, I folded the edge of the scarf about 3 inches, and placed the edge along the bonnet with the right end just at the base of my neck, and the left side hanging long. I pinned the sides together at the nape of the neck. Then I pulled the long side over my right shoulder. I picked up the short end, folded the edge in, and pulled it across my head from right to left, angling it so that it went over the edge of the cap on the left side. I pinned it just behind my left ear. This created the first criss-cross in the front.

Next, I folded the edge of the long end, and wrapped it around my head, arranging the edge straight across. The place where the flower is pinned is where the 3 crosses meet. Next, I pinned the end behind my left ear, brought the scarf around my neck in the front, then across the back of my head. The scarf ended just over the left side of the back of my head, so that is where I pinned it flat.

I hope this explanation isn't too convoluted to follow! This style would work with a very thin pashmina like the one I'm wearing, or with a thicker one. The nice thing about this style is that it only goes around the throat once, and the short end is pinned up away from the back of the neck, so the scarf doesn't actually touch the skin anywhere except right under the chin, making it perfect for hot weather.
