I am so very, very excited because the order has officially been placed for my very first square hijabs. I picked out a small collection from The Hijab Store Online, which is quickly becoming my new obsession. I tried to choose a compliment of colors and patterns to go with the clothes I already have, rather than just buying whatever I like, and then feeling upset because they don't match anything. This is a bad habit of mine with shopping in general, because my eyes are drawn to patterns and mono-chromatic color schemes. When I'm in a "blue mood" everything I choose when I go shopping will be in hues of blue or gray. The same is true for red and pink, purple and gray, yellow and white, and brown and beige. I'm not sure why that is, and being aware of it doesn't always help me to make good fashion decisions while shopping. What I really need to do is load up on solid color basics, but it makes me so depressed to pass up the prettier options. Hence there are a number of items in my closet that do not match anything (except black, of course), and hang there forlornly, waiting until I'm in the mood to wear black. (And in the summer, that is like once a month at best.)
Anyway, in an effort to work in some of the scarves I already have that don't go with anything, I bought some accessories on sale. One such thing was a hair clip with a giant chiffon flower. The nice thing about this particular large flower was that it was almost totally flat, so it doesn't look like I have a garden growing out of the side of my head. It added a much-needed element of "cute" to the ensemble, enough to help distract from the majority of the outfit being black. It's hard to see in the photos, but I'm actually wearing dark brown cords and brown Mary Janes with a black tank dress and black cardigan. The first photo was taken in true Satorialist style, in a public restroom. And no, I don't think that is gross.
This photo also features my hefty "school" bag, at the moment filled to the brim with lesson plans and classroom materials. Also, my ipod. I can't even step out of my house without the darn thing attached to my ears. I'm heavily into audio books, and at the moment of this photo, I couldn't be bothered turning it off before snapping away. Yay technology.
Below, close-ups of the brown flower pin. It really matches well.

I Need Something....
Buy it here! Some of these shops I have ordered from myself, and some I haven't but have heard good things about. If you have used a shop, then please let me know so I can give it a star rating!

Because: HUGE selection (over 1,000 scarves), fast and reasonably-priced international shipping. Has everything a beginner would need, and is always getting new products, including Mona and Kuwaiti hijabs.

Seems to have a good selection of Al-Amira and Spanish-style caps, as well as some interesting bonnets and scarves.

A nice selection of modest clothing, including jilbabs, tops, cardigans, and maxi dresses. Also hijabs of all types. Offers a monthly contest for a free hijab.

Good selection of reasonably-priced hijab scarves, a wide selection of full-coverage underscarves (called Covering Bandannas on the site), bonnets, and the "bulkyjab," a generously-sized scarf for full coverage with lots of fabric to play with. Order within the UK only, because their international shipping rates are outrageous.

Newly launched modest clothing line by hijabi Hana Tajima-Simpson. A basic collection, but bound for great things. Basics of each item your wardrobe requires- skirts, trousers, polo tops, snood caps, dresses. Pre-ordered items shipped quickly, and were very high quality.
