The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

Day Three: Workout Wear

Posted by Unknown |

Normally I would wear yoga pants, but since I don't have any with me at the moment, I'm wearing a pair of very light cargo capris with a little stretch. I have on a light and breathable black long-sleeve t-shirt and a regular t-shirt over it. I'm also wearing a brand new Capsters Runner. It is a new generation in sports wear designed to be as light and breathable as possible, while keeping you covered.

As you can see from the closer-up photo, it frames the face and extends to the top of the shoulders. It is all one piece, with no zipper, button, or velcro. You simply slip it on and you are ready to go. And because of the close facial design, you don't need any undercaps or headbands to keep your hair from coming out, which is a major pet peeve of mine with other types of hood-style hijabs like al-amiras and snoods. I will be posting a performance review of this hijab after HFW.

The Runner has some extra space at the back for more hair. The material is very comfortable. I don't even notice I have it on. In fact, in the thick, humid air of Bangladesh, I've actually been praying in it because it doesn't make the back of my neck hot.

In terms of sports, I'm not really a "team" person. Sometimes I like to play badminton with my mom and brothers, and occasionally (very occasionally) I will play beach volleyball. But otherwise, I prefer sports where the only performance I have to worry about is my own. That's why the only sport I really do is jogging. I used to suffer from asthma, before I was able to increase my lung strength enough to live without medication. Running was always something that seemed beyond my reach. However, I worked very hard and was very patient, and now I can run 5km without stopping, something I previously only dreamed about.

In the US, my parents live about a block from a state park, so I always ran in the woods. In Japan however, no such place exists for a 100 miles in every direction of Tokyo. So, I gave up running while I lived there. Now that I am back on track to being in the US, I'm looking forward to once again picking up my running shoes and going for a jog in the early mornings, when the air is crisp, the birds are just beginning to sing, and your only company is a rabbit or maybe even a deer scurrying past you on the trail ahead. And this time, I'll be taking my Runner along with me.

I'm in BD because it's where my husband is from, and he is waiting for his interview to go to the U.S. ;) BTW, love your pink sweatshirt!
