The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

I Make Stuff...

Posted by Unknown |

I'm kinda crafty, and one of the things I like to do in my free time is crochet and knit. I'm better at crocheting than knitting, and I'm pretty awful at sewing, but I give it my best shot. Anyway, I bought this fantastic pattern book, full of over 100 borders for pretty much anything you could ever want- flowers, insects, rainbows, sushi, fruit, stars, fish, bears, hats, birds... I like to experiment with the patterns, changing them around or combining them in interesting ways.

Since my brooch shopping trip was a bust (can you believe that out of the 14 accessory shops I went into, I did not find one single brooch that wasn't a silk flower or feathers? What is up with that? Doesn't anyone need decorative pins anymore?), I decided to cheer myself up by making an accessory for a scarf that I like, but doesn't go with anything. I think everyone has one of those- it was a gift, I like it, but I never wear it because I can never seem to "work it in."

Here I made a spray of white curlicue flowers with little green leaves. I used white pins to put it in place so they kinda looked like the center of the flowers. The pattern on the scarf is kinda paisley kinda floral, so I think the effect is good. It's pretty but unobtrusive. I don't like my accessories to totally overwhelm my outfits.

I wish you could take better pictures. I know its very difficult to take a picture of yourself, but I want a better look at your crochet work! It looks amazing. Maybe next time you can post a picture of you wearing it, and one of it standing alone? It does look amazing on your scarf!
