The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

So far the reactions to my wearing of head scarves at the public schools have been overwhelmingly positive. I heard from the owner of my dispatch company that my "sunny personality" might be part of the reason the school board and the staff have been so accepting. She was incredibly surprised it was so easy for her to obtain permission for me, and said that the school board's high opinion of my work so far this year may have had a solid impact on their decision. Always good to know you are well liked!

Amusingly, two kids greeted me with "Namaste" today, and one kid in a 1st grade class I was teaching for the first time asked me if I was from Egypt. Confused when I said I was from America, he asked, "Then why does the teacher look like she's from Egypt?" Lol. Hilarious considering I'm about the whitest person ever, and couldn't look less like I'm from a North African country. Perhaps it was the Bohemian accessory on my scarf that confused him? Haha.

Thanks! The accessory is actually a broken bracelet that I pinned in place using those sewing pins with the plastic balls on the ends. I couldn't tell you why I randomly kept a broken bracelet, but it came in useful after all!

As'salamalaikum Alia.
A few things:
1. I adore your blog concept. Dressing right and promoting it with style is great. Dare to add a few more spangles and take b/w pitchers too. Brooches are a yayy for me (use'em).
2. Pictures so far are great. Go with themes (I know that's asking a lot) as I think this could really take off since it's personal to you and we can relate inshaAllah.
3. DO include images from Japan - we'd love to see the culture and dress style around. Ask people if you can take pitchers of them. :)

With happies,
