The Fashion Project

A project for the fashion-conscious, modern, modest woman. A low-tech, unprofessional photographic exploration of life's changes as we come to accept the path we are meant to take, and what we wear along the way.

Sweet Date

Posted by Unknown |

When my husband and I get ready to go out on a date, whether it is night or afternoon, I always need to dress to be ready for anything. We are the kind of spontaneous couple that obsessively makes plans, then more often than not end up doing something completely different from that plan. The evening before, we might plan to wake up early, pack a day bag and take the train 2 hours to the coast, where we could sight-see (including a lovely view of Mt. Fuji ;) ), then have dinner in the local sushi bar. However, the next morning, we are just as likely to end up an hour in the other direction, spending the afternoon at the zoo and then shopping in the night market in Tokyo. On the other hand, we might wake up and decide we'd rather just get Chinese food and watch all three Lord of the Rings DVDs.

So, when we are going out, I need an outfit that fits a range of possibilities. I like to wear something feminine to counterpart my husband's masculine sporty look, so I usually wear a skirt rather than jeans. I wear flats because I don't know where we'll be walking, or how far. And I need something appropriate for warm and cool weather, in case we're out late. So, the outfit I chose for my "Date Night" post meets all requirements because it is feminine and pretty with the creams and pinks, it has a touch of my personality (the crocheted headband) and it is practical, with a cardigan and leggings for warm or cool. I can go shopping, out to dinner, or walk in the park, and the outfit goes along with me without any major discomforts and without looking inappropriate.

PS- Yes, I made the headband myself!
